report from Nora and Ray, June 21, 2009
My wife and I spent June 18-20 here at Belterra in Florence IN. A call to the Casino and we were told to park in the west parking lot. They told us of the two for one buffet on Tuesday and Thursdays with a players card you can pick up for free in the casino. The parking lot to the west is level and at the far left a few trees offer some shade.
We would recommend a stop here any time you are in the area. We found that the Casino personnel paid little attention to us, but a security van patrolled the parking lot several times each day. Traveling west 7 miles on 156 is Vevay Indiana with several antique stores, grocery's, and two small museums. It is a historic Ohio river town with many old buildings. If your old enough it was Ken Maynard's home town. Going east on 156 one mile is Florence with an Ohio river marina run by Bob and Agnes Wheeler. Florence also has a small RV park.

Belterra is a very nice riverboat casino located on the Ohio River, next to the Markland Dam in Vevay, IN (across Ohio River from Warsaw, KY). Between Cincinnati and Louisville, and easily accessed from exit #57 off I-71. They have over 300 hotel rooms, theatre, many conference rooms, and a beautiful golf course. The casino is definitely located in the middle of no-where but the area is beautiful. No RV park (and no nearby campgrounds) but ample RV parking is located at the west end of the casino parking lot. No water and/or dump station nearby so bring water.
Very upscale hotel as can be seen when you get inside. Restaurants include a Starbucks, steakhouse and their buffet with a huge fish tank. We ate at the buffet and the food was very good. Dessert can come from the Ben & Jerry's outlet located inside the casino.
I would recommend stopping here if you get the chance.

They have a large parking lot for RV's and it's level. This is a nice place, but sort-of in the middle of nowhere. The address is 'Balterra, IN' but I don't think there is a 'Balterra' other than the Casino. It's across the river and west of Warsaw, KY

Belterra Casino Resort & Spa is a riverboat casino on the Ohio River in Switzerland County, Indiana near Florence, roughly halfway between Louisville, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio. It is owned by Gaming and Leisure Properties and operated by Boyd Gaming.

The casino has 47,201 square feet (4,385 m2) of gaming space, with 1,277 gaming devices, 45 table games, and 2 poker tables.[1] From 2009 to 2011, the property reported annual revenue ranging between $152 and $162 million, and earnings between $27 and $30 million.[2]

The property has 1,062 employees.[3]

Belterra is located on 315 acres (127 ha) of land, 149 acres (60 ha) of which is leased on a 50-year term.[4]

History[edit]

In 1993, the Indiana General Assembly legalized riverboat casinos, including five licenses to be issued for sites along the Ohio River.[5] A referendum was required in each county to approve casinos.[6] Switzerland County voters passed such a measure in November 1993.[7]

The Indiana Gaming Commission issued the last of the five licenses in 1998 to Hollywood Park, Inc. (later Pinnacle Entertainment) and its Boomtown subsidiary, for a $148-million project in Switzerland County, including a 12-story, 309-room hotel.[8]

Belterra was set to open in August 2000, but was delayed when the riverboat, while en route to Indiana, collided with a barge and sank.[9] After being repaired, the casino opened on October 27.[10]

In April 2016, the property was sold to Gaming and Leisure Properties along with almost all of Pinnacle's real estate assets, and leased back to Pinnacle.[11][12]

In October 2018, Boyd Gaming acquired Belterra's operations from Pinnacle, along with three other casinos.[13] The sale was made to enable Penn National Gaming's acquisition of Pinnacle; the two companies together owned three casinos in Indiana (Belterra, Ameristar East Chicago, and Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg), while state law prohibits one company from owning more than two casinos.[14]
